Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal Party has scored a major political victory, winning all three federal special elections as tensions between Canada and the United States remain in the spotlight.
The results delivered another boost to Carney’s government and included a significant Liberal victory in a Quebec district that had been held by the Conservatives since 2018.

The elections came as Canada continues to navigate a difficult relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump, particularly over trade and economic policy.
Carney has taken a firm approach toward Washington as disputes between the two neighboring countries have intensified. The election results could strengthen his position at home and give his government greater confidence in future negotiations with the United States.
The outcome is also politically significant because Canada and the United States share one of the world’s largest trading relationships. Changes in tariffs or other trade policies can have major consequences for businesses, workers and consumers on both sides of the border.

The Liberal sweep suggests that Carney’s approach toward the Trump administration may be resonating with at least some Canadian voters.
With U.S.–Canada economic tensions still developing, the results could add another political dimension to future negotiations between Ottawa and Washington.
Attention will now turn to how Carney uses the victories and whether his government adopts an even stronger position in upcoming talks with the United States.
